The history of MCI Miritz begins with the foundation of the company in 1965. Today the family business is managed by Dr. Tillmann Miritz at the technology location Germany.

Through constant investments in research and development, a production facility at the highest technological level and not least through the development of a qualified and highly motivated team, MCI Miritz is today a globally active ingredients supplier with locations on three continents.
We see it as our duty to constantly develop ourselves further in order to help your products to success with our creativity and the technologies available to us. Compliance with quality standards and regulations is a matter of course for us. Our employees in all areas help us every day to become your partner for successful and sustainable citrus ingredients.
Our History
1965
Wolfgang Miritz GmbH & Co. KG was founded by Wolfgang Miritz. Together with his brother Hans-Dieter Miritz, they decided to found and build a production for citrus peel distillates.
1968
Miritz GmbH moved out of a rented area into our own production facility, with laboratory and administration, in Rosdorf near Göttingen.
1973
From 1973–1978 the construction of a new modern factory in Sicily took place under difficult conditions. For a full 12 months water was scarce, construction workers went on strike, and the corresponding building permits were difficult to obtain there.
1988
Dr. Tillmann Miritz and Dipl.-Ing. Christian Miritz, sons of the company founders, took over the management of the company.
1990
For the first time concentrated orange oils were launched on the market. For further expansion, planning and construction of a new production facility was considered.
1991
Founding of MCI Miritz Citrus Ingredients GmbH, Germany and start in a rented premises in Arenshausen.
1994
On 12.12.1994 – Move to the new factory. The company now comprised an administration building, a production tower, mixing rooms and several storage and tank halls.
2008
20th anniversary of the company management (Dr. Tillmann Miritz, Christian Miritz).
Erection and inauguration of the lemon statue (basalt) by the famous stone sculptor Wolf Bröll.
2010/2011
The fifth construction phase was erected on the site of the neighboring nail factory. The large hazardous goods warehouse, with corresponding product capacities, enables further strong expansion.
2013
In recognition of the special services at the location, the municipality of Kirchgandern decided to rename the street “Zur Furthmühle” to “Citrusstraße”.
November 2021
Completion of construction phase 7 as a self-sufficient production and warehouse facility

Our energy policy is designed to be sustainable and efficient. We strive for an economical use of energy through modernization and investment in the use of renewable energy. Our technical monitoring system allows us to constantly adjust and optimise energy usage throughout the production process.

As a food processing company, we are aware of our responsibility and obligation to produce safe products for our customers by practicing a food safety culture.
Integrated management
Our Integrated Management System is used to plan, organise, lead and control business processes in order to create greater value. By integrating the areas of food safety, quality, environmental protection and occupational safety into a respectful management system we create synergies which make an even more efficient management system possible.
The management provides all necessary maintenance and further development of the integrated management system and wishes to place all our knowledge and resources at your disposal. These values and principles are binding on all employees.
Sustainability
Sustainable business is one of our guiding principles: We combine economic responsibility with the protection of people and the environment.
As an industrial company, we use various technologies to provide our customers with citrus products of the highest quality. Sustainability is one of our guiding principles. For us, economic activity and social and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive. We are aware of the importance of carefully controlling risks to our environment. Therefore, we act as follows:
Environment
- 100 % of the electricity used is sourced from green electricity.
- 30 % of the heating power is produced using a vegetable oil burner. This is powered by naturally renewable raw materials.
- More than 50 % of the heating systems are powered by residual heat from our production facilities.
- Our own solar power system enables us to generate 150 MWh of electricity annually and save around 60 tons of CO2.
- A modern and energy-saving lighting system is used in the storage and production rooms.
- An energy management system with programs for the further development of energy-saving technologies is in operation.
- MCI shares climate-related data as part of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
- Organically produced and certified raw materials are naturally part of our product portfolio (GfRS).
- We are working together with the neighboring local communities on a regional reforestation program to establish new forest areas.
Supplier relationships
As one of the world’s processors of essential citrus oils, we work with suppliers all over the world. We have established close collaborations and partnerships with large and small producers. We are convinced that cooperation in a partnership is important in order to keep sight of sustainability alongside the ever-increasing demands for quality and consistency.
We expect our suppliers and service providers to comply with the ethical and social requirements of the ETI Base Code. Our company is registered with Sedex and works with the SAI Platform.
- 100 % of our suppliers and service providers are monitored for compliance with the ETI Base Code standard.
- We source 60 % of our raw materials from sustainably managed plantations.
- 3 % of our raw materials come from Fair-Trade-certified plantations.
Social
As a family-owned company with production and storage facilities in Europe and America, we are aware of the potential impact of our business activities on people and the environment. That is why respect and integrity towards our employees, our local communities, and the people throughout our supply chain are among our core values.
Commitment
For us, sustainability is not only about responsible resource management but also about social commitment. This year, we decided to forgo Christmas gifts for our customers and partners and instead support a school in Kenya. With our donation, we help create better educational opportunities for children, giving them a chance for a brighter future.
Ethical Guidelines
The mission and goal of MCI Miritz Citrus GmbH & Co. KG is the processing and refining of essential oils from citrus fruits for the production of natural flavors and odors.
In doing so, the following ethical principles are important to us:
Equal treatment of all people

We reject the consumption and handling of drugs and other harmful substances. We take the health of body mind and soul very seriously. Close collaboration with our company doctor is a matter of course. We promote sports activities for our employees. In addition, we attach great importance to a hygienic working environment.

Fair remuneration
We observe compliance with legal requirements for pay and attach great importance to the observance of weekly working hours, breaks and rest periods.

We use an integrated management system to plan, organize, manage and control all operational value creation processes. By combining the areas of quality and food safety as well as environmental and occupational safety into a management system, resources are bundled and methodical synergies used, so that more efficient management becomes possible.
